Our responsibility

At Zen we’re committed to something much bigger than ourselves, a people first culture that recognises the importance of leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.

From the environment to regulation, we believe that good community principles should be embedded, wherever possible, into policies and practices throughout our business.

We are determined to make the world a better place and this is reflected in our environmental and regulatory policies.

At Zen, we believe that business can be a force for good.

We love where we live, and we want it to be an even better place long after we’re gone.

That’s why our ultimate purpose is not to provide a return to shareholders but to deliver happiness to our people, our customers and our suppliers. We choose not to be constrained by short term financial targets but to strive for long-term goals aligned to our pursuit of happiness, and to our collective desire to have a positive impact on people and the planet. The path we have chosen leads to happiness for all.

We always strive to be a responsible business. As a communications provider to homes and businesses, we know our customers are concerned by issues like privacy, security, poor service and internet speeds. We employ a regulatory manager with many years of experience in the industry to ensure that not only do we adhere to all relevant regulation, but also that we have a real influence on the way the internet - and the laws surrounding it - evolve.

These are just some of the regulatory issues that Zen is currently involved in:

Automatic compensation. We fully support the principle of offering automatic compensation for repair faults, late installations and missed appointments. We were one of the first ISPs to sign up to the Ofcom automatic compensation scheme that came into effect in April 2019.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We have long been committed to keeping customer data safe, and undergo regular independent audits to maintain and improve our information security controls. Achieving compliance with GDPR was therefore a logical extension of what we already do.

Net neutrality. Net neutrality is the idea that all internet traffic should be treated equally, and no preference should be given to one source of data over another (perhaps for financial gain). We do not manage internet traffic in any way, and believe that net neutrality is a cornerstone of a free and open internet.

Internet Safety Strategy. We support the Government's well intended commitment to making the UK the safest place in the world to go online, and will continue to work alongside other communications providers and industry trade associations - such as ISPA - to support this where appropriate.

Gender Pay Gap Report 2023

At Zen we recognise the importance of having a diverse and gender balanced workforce which reflects the backgrounds and cultures of the communities and customers we serve.

We also recognise the number of women employed in the Tech industry and in Leadership roles is a sector-wide issue, and our figures in our latest report reflect this. However, we are committed to creating a more balanced workforce and doing much more to promote equality for all.
