PSTN Switch off | Zen Internet

What is happening?

The traditional landline phone network (PSTN) is being switched off by Openreach, and all landline services are moving to digital technology by December 2025. This change, which you might see referred to as The PSTN Switch Off, means that phone calls will no longer be connected through the copper wire network, but instead via broadband.

Why is this happening?

The Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) is over 100 years old, has become outdated and difficult to maintain. Moving to digital will provide a more reliable, efficient, and future-proof service. This change will ensure your phone services continue to run smoothly, with new benefits that come with digital technology.

Unlike traditional landlines, digital phones rely on electricity and broadband to power the router.

What if I have a Telecare or Health device?

If you or a loved one uses Telecare services, such as personal alrms, fall detectors, or health monitoring systems, it's important to act now.

Check with your telecare provider to make sure your equipment is compatible with the new digital phone lines. Many older telecare systems are designed to work on the old landline network and may need upgrading.

If you rely on telecare services or have any other vulnerability, please inform us as soon as possible. This allows us to plan your transition carefull and provide any necessary support to ensure your telecare services continue to work reliably.

What if I have a security alarm?

If your home is protected by a security alarm that coonnects through your landline, it's important to act before the Landline to Digital Switchover takes place:

Contact your alarm provider

Get in touch with your security alarm provider to confirm whether your system will work on the new digital network.

Check for compatibility

Some systems may need adjustments, while other may require a complete upgrade. Your alarm provider can advise you on the steps to take.

Ensure continued protection

It's crucial to make these changes well ahead of the switch off to ensure your security system continues to function without disruption.
