Digital Voice is a type of home phone service that works over the internet instead of traditional landlines. It lets you make and receive calls with the same phone you’ve always used, but with clearer sound quality and more inclusive features like voicemail and call blocking.

All you need is an internet connection, and you’re good to go—no need to change your phone number or how you make calls!

How does Digital Voice work?

Digital Voice uses your internet connection to make and receive phone calls instead of relying on traditional phone lines. Here’s how it works:

  1. Internet Connection: Your calls are sent through your Fibre internet connection, not the old phone lines.
  2. Digital Technology: The technology converts your voice into digital signals, which travel over the internet to the person you're calling.
  3. Clear Calls: This digital method often provides clearer sound quality and more reliable connections than traditional phone lines.

Key features

Our digital voice service costs just £6 per month and provides you with some of the lowest call rates available. This package includes 1,000 minutes to call UK landlines or mobiles monthly.

Calls are billed by the minute (with each call rounded up the nearest minute), helping you to manage your service more effectively.

  • Charges are pence per minute (PPM) and include VAT.
  • Calls are billed by the minute (with each call rounded up the nearest minute).

How we calculate call charges

Calls are subject to a minimum length of one second and are rounded to the nearest minute (e.g. if a call lasts 25 seconds, it will be rounded up to one minute on your bill). If applicable, a call setup fee is added. Fixed fee calls have a fixed-cost element for part (or all) of the call (e.g. 5p for the first five minutes or 25p per call). For calls to service numbers beginning 084, 087, 09 and 118 the access and service charges are rounded up to the nearest minute. There is no setup fee for these calls.

Digital Voice Faq

Our Digital Voice product allows you to make and receive phone calls over the internet using Voice over IP (VoIP) technology, instead of a traditional landline. By the end of January 2027 the network that has supported the traditional landline for over a Century will be retired, to ensure that you can still make and receive calls beyond that date this is the service you need to move to. 

Digital Voice works by converting your voice into digital signals, which are transmitted over the internet. This allows for high-quality, reliable calls without needing a traditional phone line.

You can use a corded telephone, in some instances the small adapter that arrives with your Fritz! router will be needed. These are called RJ11 adapters and are typically needed for older corded telephones. You can use our wireless c6 DECT Fritz!Fon with this service and in addition, you can connect your mobile phone or tablet using the Fritz!App Fon, when using the Fritz! router.

Yes, Digital Voice, which uses VoIP technology, can be very secure when properly configured and maintained. Like traditional phone lines, VoIP services require security measures to protect against potential threats. Our service ensures that any requests made to the platform are authenticated to confirm they come from trusted sources. Inbound calls are directed to your router based on its IP address, providing an additional layer of protection. Additionally, the platform continuously monitors for fraudulent activity and automatically blocks suspicious traffic, helping to maintain a secure and reliable communication environment

Digital Voice requires an internet connection, so if your power or internet goes out, you won’t be able to make or receive calls. It's recommended to have a backup solution, such as a battery back-up unit or a mobile phone.

Yes, you can make calls to emergency services. However, ensure your service is set up correctly with your location details when you place your order to avoid any delays in routing your emergency call. It is also advisable to have a back up solution in place so that you can make calls to emergency services during aa power outage. 

Digital Voice offers lower costs; monthly fees are lower than traditional phone bills and you have the option of inclusive minute allowances to choose from. 

Setting up Digital Voice is simple. Plug your existing phone into the Fritz! router, if this does not fit the router you will require the use of the adapter that arrived with the router, this is called an RJ11

Poor call quality is often due to a weak or unstable internet connection. Ensure you have sufficient bandwidth, try moving closer to your router, restart your modem, or close unnecessary applications that use the internet. Contact our Support teams if issues persist.

When you first connect your Digital Voice service, we recommend that you set up your voicemail by dialling **600 from your phone and following the instructions to record an initial greeting, turn voicemail on/ off and once set up the ability to manage your mailbox. 

Yes, you can blacklist calls from calling you including anonymous callers in the Fritz! router.

Your telecare service may not be digital ready and still dependent on the traditional landline, please speak with your telecare vendor to understand compatibility before placing an order with Zen for Digital Voice.
