According to the 2022 government Cyber Security Breaches Survey, 39% of UK businesses identified a cyber attack in the last year – and that’s just those that were noticed.

Of those businesses that reported being attacked, 31% said it was happening at least once a week, with the average cost of each attack standing at £4200.

It’s clear then that this is a common, frequent threat with material consequences. And with our businesses increasingly occupying the online space, it’s also clear that cyber security ought to be an integral part of everyday business strategy.

But how do businesses help to strengthen their cyber security before they fall prey to the attackers?

That’s where our new service, CyberCheck, comes in. By identifying many common cyber security threats before they strike, we can help to guard your business against attack.

How does it work?

CyberCheck follows a three-step process to help you identify and deal with security threats: Monitor, Alert and Support.

Through identifying threats in real-time, keeping you notified so that you can act in time, and then providing the support you need to deal with the threat, CyberCheck can help to keep your business safe.

Step 1: Monitor

Zen’s CyberCheck solution monitors your web domains in real-time to help protect your business against potential phishing, hacking and ransomware threats.

Powered by Cyjax, CyberCheck can identify the indicators of potential compromise across a wide variety of internet sources, providing automated monitoring of the following compromises:

  • Impersonation attempts
  • Phishing campaigns
  • Compromised credentials
  • Registration of ‘look-alike’ domains
  • Registration of SSL (Secure Socket Layer) certificates for those domains
  • Data breaches

But the security monitoring provided by CyberCheck is only one part of the process.

Step 2: Alert

Given that monitoring alone would provide little protection to your business, the CyberCheck service also includes the following email alert notifications.

Service alert email: This is sent once you have been successfully activated onto the CyberCheck portal and your service is live. You can be confident once you receive this email that we are now continually checking for security threats to your business.

Notification of potential compromise: This email will be sent whenever we detect a potential compromise. You can be assured that the communication will also include details of the potential threat and suggested remedial actions.

Monthly summary: Every month you will be provided with a monthly summary of the monitoring conducted and any notification alerts sent. You will also be informed if no indicators of compromise have been detected.

In addition to the above email alerts, your CyberCheck service also includes an automated takedown request mechanism. If the service detects the creation of a web domain closely associated to your own, that is suspected to be used for malicious purposes (such as impersonation attempts), the platform will automatically issue a takedown request to the relevant authorities on your behalf.

Step 3: Support

The final element of your CyberCheck service is the support provided should any threats be identified.

First line support: The CyberCheck service has been designed to enable you to self-serve via the automated email alert notification. Your email will provide details of the potential compromise along with suggested remediation actions, while an included FAQ section will provide more information to assist with remediation and support queries.

Second line support: Should the email and FAQs not provide the required level of help, Zen experts will be available to provide more personal second line support to help correct any identified security vulnerabilities.

Summary

CyberCheck provides a range of benefits to smaller businesses looking to take their business security more seriously.

If you don’t have a dedicated in-house security team, CyberCheck can help to plug a number of gaps to help bolster your protection across a range of threats.

The CyberCheck platform has already prevented 40,000+ attacks since March 2021, and the only requirements to sign up are your business name, email address and website URL.

And for real-time threat alerting and response, it only costs £10 per month per domain.
