Earth Day 2025 is here, and this year’s theme — “Our Power, Our Planet” — really speaks to us at Zen. It reflects our core belief that businesses have both the capability and responsibility to drive meaningful environmental change. It’s all about using our collective energy, literally and figuratively, to make a positive difference.
Sustainability isn’t a sideline at Zen; it’s a big part of who we are and how we operate. So this feels like the perfect moment to share how we’re powering real change — from transitioning to renewable energy and electric vehicles to cutting our emissions and resource usage.
We’re proud to say that the entire Zen network is powered by 100% renewable electricity. That means every email, video call, and website visit you make using Zen broadband is supported by clean, sustainable power. It’s a simple, significant step we’ve taken to help protect our planet.
Our commitment to green energy goes beyond our network. All our company vehicles — including our Field Engineer’s van — are now electric. By choosing electric vehicles powered by renewable energy, we’re not just cutting emissions; we’re showing how businesses can transition to cleaner, smarter transport.
Sometimes power means responsibility, and we’re serious about ours. Refrigerant gases (or f-gases) have a major impact on global warming, much more so than carbon dioxide, so we’ve focused on drastically reducing leaks from our cooling systems. This year, we achieved a 79% reduction, proving that attention to detail can have just as powerful results as the high-profile things.
Less is more when it comes to protecting our planet. This past year, we’ve reduced electricity use by 6% and water use by 15% across our operations. We’re always looking at new ways to conserve resources — because small actions can together have a huge impact. Take our router refurbishment process for example. We’re focusing on recovering routers from customers when they leave Zen so they can be refurbished and used for new customers. It helps reduce the need for new devices to be manufactured and saves on unnecessary e-waste.
We’re upfront about the fact that our carbon emissions increased by 12% this year, mainly because Zen is growing fast. But growth isn’t an excuse; it’s a responsibility. We’re improving how we track emissions with our suppliers, and we’re partnering with greener logistics companies to ensure that even as we grow, our environmental impact shrinks.
A big part of this increase was due to increasing gas usage. So as part of our push to net zero, we’re now actively looking at options to decarbonise our gas supply. Every time we identify something like this, it’s really important that we do all we can to put it right… and that’s what we’re doing.
Why does sustainability matter so much to Zen? Because there’s no Planet B. Because we want our customers and employees to feel proud to choose us. Because every business has the power to influence a healthier, cleaner future.
As we look ahead, we’re focused on becoming even more efficient, cutting emissions even more, and strengthening our commitment to sustainability. But Earth Day is also about all of us — our choices, our actions. Whether it’s switching devices off at the plug, recycling, or choosing companies that share our values, every step each and every one of us takes matters.

Together, our power can build a greener future.
